I made this recipe book as a gift. I bought a large binder and covered it with batting and fabric, lining the inside as well. I filled the inside with plastic sheets where recipes could be inserted and created tabs for different food categories and cuisines. Finally, I customized the label for the friend receiving the book, so it was even more personalized.
The bookends shown here were a gift for a friend with a purple and silver decorating scheme. I bought salvaged architectural pieces for the sides. I made the wood base and attached the architectural pieces. Then I painted the wood with shading in the dark areas and bright silver for the highlights. The sides I covered with purple suede fabric held down with upholstery tacks.
This bookmark was the favor at a friend's wedding shower. With a theme of a Victorian tea, I was told to use dark colors and came up with the idea of using the couple's silhouettes on the bookmark. I was told that the results look just like them and the shower favors were very well received.
These diorama Christmas ornaments I made by hand out of mason jar lids. I formed the snow and trees out of moldable clay and painted them to create the scene. Then I glued in the snowman and cardinal to bring the background to life. These look so beautiful on the Christmas tree!
A friend gave me a raw wood corn hold board to paint for him. He is Greek and asked me to paint a scene from Santorini on the board. I primed the board, drew the scene on it, and then painted the bright colors with acrylic paint. Though it isn't showing in this shot, the board is is made complete by a blue Greek key pattern going around its four sides.
I made these custom windows treatments for unusually sized windows. For two sets of large windows, I sewed 6 sheer panels and two swag curtains measuring about 30 feet each. They were made of a thick embroidered fabric to drape across the top of the windows. This project included curtain rod installation and hanging as well.
I made this flower arrangement for a room with a gold theme. I first painted the vase from the inside and sprayed it with varnish to keep the paint on. Then I arranged the flowers as you see here.
I made this sculpture from a male figure model. It is styled after a Roman soldier, but with the realism that comes from working with a model.
I painted the garden gnome for my grandmother's garden. I chose bright colors for his clothes. Then I did some gray shading on his beard and a little pink touch on his cheeks.
The book cover you see here was the special request of a friend to protect the cover of a much beloved book. I bought the fabric and a lining for the inside, then sewed it to fit the book dimensions.
I made these icon Christmas ornaments to decorate my Christmas tree. They are solid wood balls. I added the hooks in the top and painted them. Then I put on the icons of St. Nicholas, The Three Magi, St. Joseph, and Mary with the Christ Child. I completed them with gold halos. They look beautiful catching the light on my Christmas tree.
Recently, I decorated containers to look like mummies for Halloween. I painted them black, put eyes on the front, and wrapped them with strips of cheese cloth. After stuffing them with candy, they made the perfect treat for trick or treaters.
I created this Moroccan jewelry box for my niece. First, I drew out a complicated pattern inspired by Moroccan tile and sketched it onto the box. I painted it in bright beautiful colors to highlight the organic shapes.
When I bought this container it was a raw wood jar. I decided to make it into a pretty pin box for my goddaughter. I started by putting the pattern on the wood with stenciling gel. Once dry, the gel leaves a raised surface to make the design more dynamic. I then painted over the whole box with green acrylic paint and highlighted the decorative pattern with a shimmering gold paint.
My mother and I made these baby boy cake pops as a favor for a baby shower. I dipped the balls of cake in candy melts in a variety of blue shades and then decorated them with sprinkes or drizzled icing. For the baby cake pops, I added a bonnet and ribbon and then painted a face to create a cute baby boy.
This is a hexagonal ornament that I painted for Christmas. I designed a pattern to go on each side. Then I painted it with a two gold tone paints and then gave it an antique finish. I then decorated it with gold, green, and red gemstones. The gold catches the light of the Christmas tree.
This mango pineapple mousse was my sister's idea. We made it together, then I finished it off with a mango flower decoration on top.
I went to a Shaker farm in Massachusets where a woman cut this puzzle with a 19th century jigsaw that still operated perfectly. She kindly gave me the puzzle. I decided to make the puzzle a gift for my nephew. I sanded, primed, and painted the puzzle with a scene reminiscient of early, rural America as a reminder of the Shaker farm where the puzzle was made.
Shown here is another flower arrangement I made in burgundy, cream, and gold. I painted the stone jar with the gold accents and arranged the flowers inside.
I made this full figure nude in sculpture class. We started by making a wire mold of this figure. There is a pipe holding her up and thick wire resembling the bone structure and in the right posture of the figure. To the wire base we added plastiline, a moldable clay that never (or rarely) dries. This clay was slowly molded into the model's form.
